Desarmillaria caespitosa is a species of fungus that belongs to the family Physalacriaceae. It is characterized by its small to medium-sized fruiting bodies, typically 1-4 cm in diameter, with a bell-shaped to conical cap and a slender stem. The cap is often yellowish-brown to reddish-brown, while the gills are pale yellow to brown. In East and Central Texas, Desarmillaria caespitosa has been found growing in clusters on soil, dung, or decaying organic matter, particularly in areas with rich soil and adequate moisture. It typically fruits from summer to fall, and is considered edible, but caution is advised due to potential confusion with poisonous lookalikes.
