Lactarius yazooensis is a species of mushroom in the genus Lactarius, characterized by its small to medium size, orange-brown to reddish-brown cap, and white to pale yellowish gills. In East and Central Texas, it typically fruits in late summer to early fall, often in association with oak and pine trees. The fungus has been found in a variety of habitats, including woodland edges, savannas, and sandy soils, and is considered to be relatively common in the region.

The majority of sightings were in College Station's Lick Creek Park (13 observations) and Sam Houston National Forest's Caney Creek Trail (11 observations). Additional observations were made at Somerville Lake State Park, Hensel Park, Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, and other locations. The fungus was typically found under oak, cedar, or juniper trees, often in wet or flooded areas. Observations included notes on the mushroom's cap, gills, spores, and milky latex. While most observations were confirmed as Lactarius yazooensis, some were tentative identifications marked with a question mark. Overall, the data suggests that Lactarius yazooensis is a common species in East and Central Texas, particularly in areas with suitable habitat and moisture.
